HAYDON WILLIAMS

RITUAL STORM

In the 1980's and 90's, I visited Japan several times, on design consultancy business . Visiting key museums and art galleries, I became fascinated by the treatment of rain and water within historic woodcuts and textile clothing patterns . Using sharp lines, dashes, ellipses and curves the artists expressed a variety of watery conditions . From torrential driving rain to ripples and currents on the surface, all were depicted in a stylised, often geometric manner .
