'The Kraken Wakes', an apocalyptic novel written by John Wyndham in 1953, published in 1955 by Penguin, in paperback form. The authors inspiration, a reference to Alfred Tennysons sonnet, The Kraken: The eponymous kraken, is a sea monster from Scandinavian folklore. The novel describes the escalating phases of an invasion of Earth, by never seen, deep sea living aliens.
