SPECTRES WITH KILNS

Ascending 'bird like' spectres represent the wealth of artistic and technical creativity contained within the ceramic manufacturing atrea of Stoke-on-Trent. In the 19th century the city was a chaotic assemblage of back yard kilns. All harnessed in the manufacture of products which were exported throughout the British Empire and beyond. The 'bottle' kilns are among the remnants of this active commercial past.
