BOTTLE OVENS - LONGTON
Early morning view through a kiln door.Looking towards the inner courtyard, across grey blue stone cobbles. The over- head walkway gives access to external wooden stairs. In the middle ground, piles of cylindrical saggars lean against a kiln. These are made from fire clay and are used as a protective container for the decorated pottery pieces when they are being fired in the kiln.
