In the Middle Ages the South Bank was outside the Regulations of the City of London. It was the entertainment area of the time, home of bear baiting, prostitution, drinking dens, villains and theatres . Following the 1951 Festival of Britain it has continuously developed as an area for the Arts and Entertainment . More recently, new pedestrian bridges, the London Eye and further extensions to Tate Modern will continue to attract visitors from all over the world . Even skateboarding gets a role to play in the undercroft .
